Shorter duration on stop permit
According to “Administration of Entry and Exit of Foreigners”, any critical changes on visa such as name, passport number and resident matters should inform and apply the changes to the local immigration office within 10 days. After the international residents apply the changes, the immigration office would issue the stop permit which usually remains 30 days staying. Nowadays, the duration of stop permit applied during resident permit (work category) is shorten to 15 days in Shanghai.
Under which circumstance immigration office will issue the 15-days- stop permit?
When the international expats change job in Shanghai, they should apply a stop permit which last for 30 days within 10 days from the last working date on the termination letter issued by the previous employer. During the stop permit given time, the new employer need obtain the new work permit card and apply the resident permit for the international expats. 30-days is really limited for the stop permit because the application of work permit usually takes more than 30 days. If unfortunately, we exceeded the 30 days regulation, then the immigration will likely issue another stop permit lasting for 15 days to us, providing sufficient time on the application of work permit for the employee.
System maintenance of the immigration office
The internal system and website of the immigration office in Shanghai are under the maintenance from July until now. As a result, the online application of temporary residency form and the online reservation of visa are currently on hold. The application of temporary residency form could now only be provided by the local police office. The reservation of visa could only apply through the hotline of the immigration office in Shanghai.
The trend on data sharing between the department of work permit and the immigration office
In the past, the immigration office usually just checks the paperwork about the work permit provided by the company, for example, the screenshot of the ongoing application in the work permit system. Nowadays, when they are reviewing the application of the stop permit for the international expats, the immigration office now intends to manually check the status of work permit with the work permit office. In the future, the department of work permit and the immigration office might be going to sharing the data about the work visa.
