Postpartum Depression will be involved in Maternity Insurance?

 

According to the latest statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics, 580 thousand fewer people were born in 2019 than people born in 2018. Although it has been four years since the two-child restriction policy implemented in 2016, the number of births has still declined for three consecutive years. In May 2020, the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference also mentioned China's aging population and unreasonable policy of penalizing three newborns, suggesting that the birth restriction should be abolished to promote the growth of the birth population. While the nation encourages childbearing and promotes the growth of the birth population and reduces the aging population, many working women have given up the opportunity of having a second child due to the pressure of the economy and life. In the social security and housing fund, maternity insurance provides social and medical benefits, such as maternity leave and allowance, to female workers who become pregnant or give birth while employed.

 

The male employees, who participate in the social security that is mandatory, could still claim for the maternity insurance. When a female partner cannot claim for the maternity insurance, the male employees could claim the maternity insurance instead and enjoy paternity leave, most province and city level provides 10 days.

 

Medical and Maternity Insurance Merged

 

At the end of March 2019, the Council proposed to combine medical insurance and maternity insurance to establish the policy of "Four Unification and Two Guarantees". Four unification is to unified medical and maternity insurance code, fund collects capture and management, medical service center and agency, and information service. Due to different insurance codes, maternity and medical insurance could not be used at the same health center before. After "Four Unification”,  the qualified people could easily claim and use medical and health. Furthermore, the policies would help insurance become more standard. “Two Guarantees” are to ensure the protection of maternity insurance and a sustainable system. Although maternity insurance and medical treatment are combined, the specification of benefits would remain the same.

 

Postpartum Depression Would Include in Maternity Insurance

 

Recently, many female celebrities in the entertainment industry have talked about their experiences of postpartum depression, which has made many people realize the seriousness and prevalence of postpartum depression. In the process of curing postpartum depression, a series of medical costs are also very high, so that most families cannot afford, and depression gets worsen. The NPC  also suggested that the treatment of postpartum depression would be covered into maternity insurance, protecting women's mental health in the process of childbirth, comprehensively protecting women's overall health.

When hiring female workers, businesses often undertake a lot of responsibility, increasing the labor costs of businesses.
